Snow fence

Can someone please tell the MTO (Ontario Ministry of Transportation) that a snow fence consists of 2 parts. This is the second year that they put up the posts, but never return for the actual fence. It doesn't block the snow this way.

Below is the way an actual fence should work.

Diamonds are overrated!

I try and buy quality jewelry for my girlfriend. Diamonds are great for cutting things, but really it's just a nice piece of clear glass.

This woman is involved in fair trade gems and jewelry design.
Her website is www.zaharadesign.com

Dendritic Quartz
Dendritic Quartz contains a marking resembling moss or a tree form (in upper center of piece). In this one of a kind generator crystal, it is comprised of chlorite which brings a closeness with nature and a connection to Gaia or Mother Earth
Lodolite
Lodolite is truly a rare treasure of nature. Lodolite was created over millions of years - it is a variety of quartz with unique mineral inclusions. Some strands may have some beads with golden rutile or red hair inclusions.

Enough Raccoons!

So, I try and collect tins for recycling, or for donating to Habitat for Humanity.

Raccoons are a fact of life in my barn.
They have been here for the past 15 years and every winter move in to have baby raccoons.

As if cleaning the huge mounds of crap every year is not enough, they recently have become psycho.

They take a can and shred it into little pieces.

car ad only in Canada

I've always wondered how people in California actually think of us here in Canada, especially during our winter months.

Here's an ad they just won't see from a local newspaper in my area.

It just doesn't seem right. Couldn't they have hired someone to brush off the cars? Couldn't they have just waited for a better day? Couldn't they just have used a "stock" shot?

Unlike California these cars come without bullet holes!

Asbestos anyone?

It's asbestos!

And I have some!

A friend of mine MG recently was cleaning out some stuff (it may be part of a series) and now I'm a proud owner of a box of poison.

And I was crazy enough to open the box to check out the samples.

Boy, am I dead!

Elia Saikaly

Here is the man, Elia Saikaly, that went on a journey to Mount Everest.
This was taken just the before the premiere of the film "Finding Life".
His purpose was to document the Everest climb by Ottawa University Professor Dr. Sean Egan.
The only problem was, that he never slept in a tent.

Here he is as a guest on my show.

Country Lane Fine Wood Products

Country Lane Fine Wood Products
http://www.countrylanewood.com/

... is moving closer to my house.

Located in Berwick, Ontario we provide local businesses and residents with what we hope is some of the very best lumber available in Eastern Ontario.

The problem I find is with these new structures. I often see many covers ripped and all that remains is a pile of metal spans. The manufactures say otherwise.

I myself would prefer a metal shed for this type of operation. Yes, it costs more, but it WILL last longer.

This one is a "Super Structure"

Remember, I'm just commenting... people can do what they want. Judge for yourselves.

Trebuchet and Catapult in Chesterville

The 1st Annual Catapult pumpkin toss was held and 2 entries showed up. One was a bit dodgy with a $0.0 budget, where the other group spent a bit more time and money

First up is the rather dodgy toss... look carefully...

Next one beat the record... something like over 300 yards... almost across the railroad tracks!

Cirque du Soleil in Ottawa

Corteco was in town and I love the circus. The thing is, this was held in an empty lot that I watched them pave over the month before just for the show.

I love the fact that they bring the entire operation with them in tents and cargo containers.

I often just check out some of the technical things such as holding down tents.

Lil Shop O'Terror

Angie from Muffler Crunch is one crazy chick! Not only is the music amazing, her artwork and shop are very spooky. I collect bones for her that I find in the field. She makes stuff!

old Williamstown school (Nor'westers and Loyalist Museum)

Tucked among trees on John Street is the Nor'westers and Loyalist Museum. The Georgian style structure was originally built as a school in 1862. Later, as a Centennial project in 1967, it became the present museum.

http://www.glen-net.ca/museums/norwesters.html

What's really neat about this, is that the kids carved their names in the brick. It's just not that they carved, it's that they had style... almost "fontish" like!

And since this was a grade school, the carvings only go so far up the wall.

It's easy to figure out who the tallest kid was, or perhaps they lifted each other on their shoulders.

St. Raphael's ruins

In 1970 a fire consumed the church of St. Raphael's, one of the earliest Roman Catholic churches in English-speaking Canada. Fortunately the outer walls were spared and today its impressive scale and fine masonry work continue to attract the tourists to the site. The Ruins were declared a National Historic Site in 1999.

It's also an excellent concert venue!!!

Schoolhouse, SS 17, Lost Village

This old schoolhouse actually was not part of the flooding.

It used to sit on my next door neighbours property where he grew up and could walk to school.

It was actually located closer to Avonmore.

Not sure when it was moved.

The Lost Villages Museum is located in Ault Park on Fran Laflamme Drive, 3 kilometres east of Long Sault, Ontario. The museum site consists of ten heritage buildings, moved and restored to Ault Park from The Lost Villages and surrounding townships by the members of The Lost Villages Historical Society. Both the interiors and exteriors of the buildings have been restored, and they have been assembled in a village-like setting at Ault Park. The buildings commemorate the inundation of lands to the south of the museum complex on July 1, 1958.
