Schoolhouse, SS 17, Lost Village

This old schoolhouse actually was not part of the flooding.

It used to sit on my next door neighbours property where he grew up and could walk to school.

It was actually located closer to Avonmore.

Not sure when it was moved.

The Lost Villages Museum is located in Ault Park on Fran Laflamme Drive, 3 kilometres east of Long Sault, Ontario. The museum site consists of ten heritage buildings, moved and restored to Ault Park from The Lost Villages and surrounding townships by the members of The Lost Villages Historical Society. Both the interiors and exteriors of the buildings have been restored, and they have been assembled in a village-like setting at Ault Park. The buildings commemorate the inundation of lands to the south of the museum complex on July 1, 1958.

There was an open house at the Robert Saunders generating station.
I was stunned, although happy to see this sign.

We pretty much had access to everything...

Of course, due to Post 9/11 fear and paranoia, the USA side was closed...

CFL bulbs

CFL bulbs are great for a number of things, but not for use in a barn.

How can you clean one of these?

Nature IS Cruel!

I heard the usual agitated sounds of a robin, but noticed it was more agressive that usual. Then I saw this red squirrel, (yes, it looks like a chipmunk, but it was larger) running from the nest with an egg.


I was shocked, and so will you!

Miracle or Diet?

My dog Ellie is a Border Collie mix and she's over 15 years old. She has had a good life with over 20 acres of land to romp around on. But, like me I never really fed her the best food, either because I didn't care, or my financial situation didn't allow it.


In the past few years she has shown signs of aging of course with the removal of her dew claw (cancer) and she has a bad spine, terrible legs, and she is deaf. But, she still is a puppy with loads of energy and a spark in her eye.


In mid April of this year she stopped eating for 4 days. After the first round of blood tests, we were preparing to put her down that week.



After consulting with a friend of mine, she prepared an emergency diet for 2 weeks and we ran more blood tests.

Everyone was stunned regarding the profound changes just after 2 weeks of this diet.

With new numbers in hand, another custom diet was created to deal with the organs involved, specifically the pancreas, and liver.

Five years have passed since Westfest's debut, and it's still FREE! To mark this achievement, WESTFEST has been extended to five days. The festival's prime focus this year will be "A Celebration of Canadian Aboriginal Women in Music." Starting June 11 through June 15 an estimated 50,000 people will stroll through the community of Westboro Village taking in music, visual art, theatre, literary readings, dance, spoken word, and performance art. Join us on Richmond Road, between McRae and Golden Avenues, in Ottawa. Everyone is welcome!

So, I was cleaning my "Odditorium" the other day and as I lifted a cabinet this is what I found underneath... it seems to look like the province of Quebec...

The Drum Major, Ottawa Police Service Pipe Band

This officer is Staff Sergeant Chris Renwick whom I know.

We both never guessed that the day would come that he and a CKCU logo would be together!


The Ottawa Police Service Pipe Band has been in existence since 1969 and was originally founded by serving Ottawa Police officers. It's purpose at the time was to promote the police service's public relations but even more to contribute to memorials for slain police officers. This mission continues today for the band, which annually plays at Canada's national police memorial service, as well as memorial services, funerals, tattoos, highland games, and parades across Ontario and the U.S. The Band wears the 'Red Ross' Tartan in honour of Ottawa's first Chief Constable, Roderick Ross.
