Gypsy Lane debate

There's been a lot of talk lately about a recreational path between Chesterville and Winchester. I took these pictures on the 25 Oct '07 to illustrate some thoughts that have been missing from the news reports.

This is looking East at Gray and Kittle Road

This is looking West at Gray and Kittle Road

This is looking East at Belanger and Gray Road

This is looking West at Belanger and Gray Road

And now, Gypsy Lane looking West

Gypsy Lane looking East.

Here is the Eastern (Chesterville) view of the path...it's the first "road" north of highway 43

Here is the western view (Winchester) including the actual Gypsy Lane.

Now here's a map from 1870 that clearly shows the right of way for a road.

In 1957, it's actually a completed road, unless this atlas is wrong.

Here's the point:

"Roads and Right of Ways, legally open, but not necessarily passable". This is indicated on maps. These roads belong to us. Arguments about the farmers don't cut it. It's our land not theirs. Arguments about farm equipment on roads with people don't cut it. I live on a Concession road and farm equipment is omni-present.

And am I missing something? Looks like a pretty good path already... the snowmobilers are using it!

A note to the path builders. JUST DO IT!. Yes, I know it'll take some loads of gravel, and some bulldozing time, but put together your community and do it.

The bigger mystery is how Maple Ridge Road got to be there. Was it a swamp, or something impassable. It's unusual, since concessions are usually straight lines, then the roads follow. How did this come to be?
